With a unique blend of banjo and bedroom pop, Toy Shaw landed on the scene in 2022 with her signature self-produced folktronic sound. Raised in Te Whanganui-a-Tara, Toy, inspired by her mother's early obsession with The Chicks, forged a love of country music. With reverent affinity for Maybelle Carter, Neko Case and Kitty Wells, Toy (like Dolly) Shaw (like her mum), was born. Since relocating to Naarm, her music has garnered praise from presenters across Triple J, FBi, PBSFM, Triple R and RNZ. Her music is something like an Oklou remix of Loretta Lynn – alt-pop textures with folk melodies and country feelings.
